For Cadillac, the Series 62 was a highly successful model during the immediate postwar period. Its styling was ultra-modern and largely unchanged from the prewar 1942 models, with clean lines and a strong Cadillac identity. For 1946, the grille and front parking lamps were somewhat altered, small dashboard details were modified, and wrap-around bumpers were added. Mechanically, the cars featured Cadillac’s “battle proven” 346-cubic inch V8 engine, and Hydra-Matic was optional.

While Cadillac resumed civilian automobile production soon after V-E Day, strikes and sheet-metal shortages held Cadillac production to just under 30,000 units for 1946, with the Series 62 being the division’s biggest seller. Cadillac fever had hit America, and by 1947, some 96,000 orders remained unfilled, an astounding statement of the popularity of these fine automobiles.

This Series 62 Convertible Coupe benefits from a body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration that was completed over a 25-year period through to 2007. With just over 2,000 miles traveled since the restoration was completed, including trouble-free use in a CCCA CARavan, the Cadillac retains its original engine and remains excellent throughout. This example is very well equipped with such features as a Hydra-Matic transmission, a power antenna, a power-operated front seat, a power top and power windows. In addition, it includes dual backup lights, dual fog lights and dual side mirrors.

The lengthy and painstaking restoration effort resulted in a number of recent awards, including a CCCA Senior award (badge number 2845) in 2008 and an AACA Junior award (badge number W22694) in 2009. With its fresh, professional detailing, this virtually flawless Series 62 Convertible Coupe will continue its winning ways on the show field or provide a wonderful open touring experience for its new owner.
